She Left the CEO and Reclaimed Her Empire
Chapter 94
Camille slipped her phone into her pocket and descended the stairs. She informed Helena that Damien wouldn't be joining them for dinner.
The entire night passed without Damien returning home.
By morning, Helena was fuming. "Unbelievable! I know his work keeps him occupied, but to not come home at all?"
Camille merely offered a knowing smile. Damien could have returned if he'd truly wanted to. Everyone needed sleep, after all.
The memory of Selene's voice on the phone last night resurfaced. Damien must have found better company elsewhere. That explained his absence.
Meanwhile at NovaSight Labs Co., the major projects for the next two years had been outlined. Camille had completed the framework in just two days, but Gabriel insisted they refine their concepts. He sent documents to Graham for feedback, expecting a lengthy delay.
Graham was notoriously busy and unpredictable. They anticipated waiting days, possibly weeks, for his response.
To their astonishment, Graham called within hours. "Impressive work."
His brief approval carried immense weight. Coming from someone with Graham's exacting standards, those two words were high praise indeed.
Graham continued, "Your foundation in AI development and historical context is flawless. Competent work."
His words were clearly directed at Camille, making her eyes sting unexpectedly.
Before she could respond, he added, "However, you're becoming complacent. Without continuous improvement, you'll stagnate. Frankly Camille, you're slipping."
"I understand, Mr. Bellamy," Camille replied immediately. "I'll dedicate myself to catching up on recent advancements."
"Good." Graham never wasted words. The call should have ended there.
Noticing his unusual availability, Camille ventured, "Are you free for dinner tonight, Mr. Bellamy? My treat."
Gabriel perked up at the suggestion. It had been ages since they'd shared a meal with Graham. "Yes, join us if you can."
Graham's response was typically blunt. "Prior engagement."
Their disappointment was palpable. Camille was about to ask when he might be available when Graham dropped his bombshell.
"Damien made the arrangements." The statement left them stunned.
Gabriel recovered first. "Why would Mr. Harrington contact you?" His voice held barely concealed curiosity.
"Apparently he wants to introduce someone." With that, Graham terminated the call.
Gabriel turned to Camille. "You don't think he's introducing Selene, do you?"
Until recently, Gabriel hadn't known about the Lancaster family's tech interests. Selene had sought employment at NovaSight Labs specifically for access to Nexa programming language.
Public knowledge credited Graham with creating Nexa alongside his team of developers.
With her NovaSight Labs opportunity gone, Selene likely sought direct access to Graham - possibly even an apprenticeship.
The realization made Gabriel curse violently. "That conniving bitch!"
