She Left the CEO and Reclaimed Her Empire

Chapter 81

The kite soared effortlessly into the sky, drawing bright smiles from Camille and Iris.

Tristan watched Camille's radiant expression, his gaze darkening slightly.

Noticing his stare, Camille tilted her head. "Something wrong?"

"Nothing," he replied simply.

She didn't press further, leading Iris a little farther away. Tristan kept his distance, honoring his promise not to intrude.

When they grew tired of flying the kite, Camille and Iris moved to the lakeside to fish. They crouched by a vendor's small pond, studying the darting fish before attempting to catch them with tiny nets.

Soon, midday arrived.

Tristan hadn't packed any food, having only planned a short outing. Seeing Iris's hunger, he suggested lunch at a nearby café.

After a relaxing morning, Camille felt lighter and agreed without hesitation.

Over the meal, Camille chatted animatedly with Iris.

Tristan stayed silent, content to slide their favorite dishes closer whenever they reached for them.

Camille, engrossed in conversation, didn't notice his subtle gestures.

A moment later, Tristan's phone buzzed.

Glancing at the screen, he excused himself. "I need to take this."

Camille nodded.

It was Arlo.

Stepping away, Tristan answered. "What is it?"

"Where are you? Have you eaten? A friend just sent over fresh seafood. Damien and the others are coming. Join us?"

Tristan glanced at Camille and Iris. "Already ate. Next time."

"Tonight, then. Yacht party. Damien confirmed. Bring your niece—we haven't met her yet. Perfect chance for introductions."

Tristan's voice remained firm. "She's shy. Crowds make her uncomfortable."

"Relax. Chloe will be there. They're the same age—they'll get along. Seven o'clock. Don't be late." Arlo hung up before Tristan could refuse.

After lunch, Camille and Iris chased butterflies and rode bicycles until exhaustion set in.

Iris eventually dozed off.

Camille, equally worn out, decided to head home. She left quietly.

Tristan watched her car disappear before departing himself.

When Iris woke and found Camille gone, her face fell. "Where's Ms. Hartwell?"

"She went home," Tristan said.

"Oh..." Disappointment laced her voice.

That evening at seven, Tristan boarded the yacht as agreed.

Damien and the others had already arrived. Arlo waved him over.

Spotting Iris, Arlo grinned. "This must be the famous Iris. Hello, I'm Arlo Calloway, your uncle's friend."

The yacht buzzed with activity, making Iris shrink into herself.

Then Selene arrived with Chloe in tow.

Tristan tensed slightly at their appearance.

Hearing Iris was shy, Chloe extended a hand. "There's a kids' play area over there. Want to join me?"

Iris looked to Tristan. Only after his encouraging nod did she take Chloe's hand.

Arlo smirked as they walked away. "First time playing babysitter? How's it feel?"

"It's fine."

Iris might be shy, but she was well-behaved—easy to manage.

Damien handed Tristan a glass of wine. "Drink?"
