"Did you hear about the contract termination between NovaSight Labs and Vertex Dynamics?"

"Your student Gabriel has become increasingly arrogant and reckless, blinded by love to the point of losing all judgment. Have you noticed this?"

Everett Mercer had intended to say these words, but when his gaze landed on Damien Harrington, the words caught in his throat.

These matters concerned Selene Lancaster after all.

With both Selene and Damien present now, Everett realized he had no right to speak on the subject.

Speaking out of turn in front of so many people would be equivalent to revealing his thoughts about Selene to others.

That would only cause her unnecessary trouble.

Noticing Emmett Maddox standing beside Damien, Everett recognized his identity.

The sarcastic tone made Everett realize Gabriel was beyond redemption - smug and utterly unrepentant.

He'd once pitied Gabriel.

Now, seeing how eagerly Gabriel was descending into decadence with Camille Hartwell, Everett thought: why stop him?

With this in mind, Everett responded dismissively, "Mr. Ashcroft, you're exaggerating."

Uninterested in Everett, Gabriel turned to Camille and Graham. "Professor, shall we go?"

Camille nodded, gesturing politely. "Professor, this way."

When Everett and Selene heard Camille address Graham as "Professor," they assumed she was shamelessly following Gabriel's lead.

Still, it displeased them, feeling Camille's casual address tarnished Graham's reputation.

As Gabriel and Camille headed back to the office, Graham departed in his car.

Gabriel remarked, "Everett is such a fool. I regret ever collaborating with him just to show Dorian Hartwell respect. The thought of continuing to work with him gives me a headache."

Camille massaged her temples. "Should we have Mr. Lockwood handle him from now on?"

"Please do!" Gabriel responded.

Camille smiled as they entered the building.

Stepping off the elevator toward the company entrance, her phone rang.

Damien was calling.

Camille didn't answer.

Noticing her sudden change in expression, Gabriel guessed the caller's identity.

After the ringing stopped, Camille was about to discuss tomorrow's work when a new message notification appeared.

From Damien:

"I'm leaving on business tomorrow. Chloe wants to stay with you. Can you look after her during the May Day holiday?"

Gabriel scoffed upon reading it. "Just like during the Lumina Festival - he can't travel without bringing Selene along. But he wants you to babysit Chloe so he can have alone time with Selene?"
