Chapter 274: Elena Ward's Dormitory Was a Modest One-bedroom Apartment

Elena Ward's dormitory was a modest one-bedroom apartment, and with six people crammed inside, it felt uncomfortably tight. Only then did she realize she hadn't thought things through—sleeping on the floor in this weather would be far too cold.

"What should we do..." Elena bit her lip anxiously. There was only one bed, and having both men and women share the space was hardly appropriate.

Adrian Stone glanced around and suggested, "How about your brother-in-law and the three kids come with me? A friend of mine has an empty place—three bedrooms, a living room, and a kitchen. It's just a bit far from the hospital."

Elena's sister, Rose Jackson, brightened. "That's perfect!" She turned to her husband. "You can stay with Adrian for tonight, and tomorrow we'll go check out the place."

Elena Ward also sighed in relief. "Brother-in-law, sorry for the inconvenience."

Nolan Brooks gave a good-natured smile. "It's fine. If it comes down to it, we can always sleep on the floor in the living room." The three children nodded obediently.

But then Rose Jackson hesitated. "Actually... maybe we shouldn't. It's just one night..." She couldn't bear to be apart from her children.

Elena Ward understood her sister's feelings. "Then how about this—I'll borrow some extra bedding. If we layer it thick enough, it shouldn't be too cold."

Adrian checked his watch. "It's 5:30 now. You all go ahead to the cafeteria for dinner. I'll go get the bedding." With that, he hurried out.

Elena led everyone in tidying up their belongings. When Rose Jackson saw the refrigerator, she sneezed in surprise. "Why is this cabinet so cold?"

"That's a fridge—it keeps food fresh." Elena patiently explained how each appliance worked, leaving the family marveling at everything.

As they prepared to leave for the cafeteria, Rose Jackson hesitated again. "Maybe we should just heat up some steamed buns at home?"

"Sis, the cafeteria uses meal tickets, and I have plenty left this month," Elena said with a laugh, gently nudging her toward the door. "If we don't go now, the cooks will be off duty."

Nolan watched as Elena effortlessly locked the door with a simple turn, once again amazed at how everything in the city was so novel. The three children, meanwhile, eagerly looked around, their eyes wide with curiosity at this unfamiliar urban world.
